The magical anticipation of St. Nick dropping down the chimney on Christmas Eve may be long gone, but that doesn’t mean the adults can’t have fun this holiday season. The Reno Santa Pub Crawl, Dec. 12, highlights a weekend of events during Reno’s Reindeer Games. Basically, several thousand Santa crawlers hit the streets and watering holes of downtown Reno, showing off their best Santa-inspired costumes – the party reaches a crescendo when revelers meet under the legendary Reno Arch. So break out your best Santa suit and make it a weekend. Written by RSCVA.

Reno Santa Pub Crawl
Wednesday December 10, 2008
A variety of Santas, Mrs. Santas, elves, and other holiday beings will take to the streets of downtown Reno this Saturday night for the 7th Annual Reno Santa Pub Crawl. This roving party starts at one of three downtown bars and involves about 30 watering holes scattered around the neighborhood. Things get started at 7:30 p.m. – show up at Amendment 21, Imperial Bar and Lounge, or The Underground to get a crawl map and your first drink. Participation in the Reno Santa Pub Crawl is free, but you’ll have to pay for your drinks. Read the rest of this entry »
Rally your holiday powers to make it to all 31

Skeptics with too much time on their hands may argue that there is no way Santa Clause could deliver presents to the home of every child in the world during the course of a single night. Since we’ll never know the answer to that impossible hypothetical dilemma, why not focus on a more easily tested challenge: drinking at 31 bars and clubs while decked out in holiday garb during the seventh annual Santa Pub Crawl on Dec. 13.
I don’t see it happening, and if I do see it, I’ll buy you a drink.
Regardless of how far you get, all proceeds from bars go to the Hashimoto Widows and Orphans’ Fund for families of fallen police officers, so doing good is as easy as raising a glass this Saturday.
Pick your starting bar
Although tackling all 31 (and imbibing at each, mind you) might be out of the question, there are a few ways to pick your route to avoid hundreds of Santas all showing up at once to any particular bar.
The Santa Pub Crawl Web site lets you bring up the list of places in three routes, starting at either Imperial, Amendment 21 or the Underground. And of course, all roads lead back to 210 North for the official after the arch party that keeps things going long after bars might close and will provide an opportunity to get all the Santas together at the same time.

Pub crawl supports families of fallen police officers
November 25, 2008
If you’ve always wanted to bust out your inner Santa and go wild boozing it up with hundreds and hundreds of like-minded elves, now’s your chance. The annual Reno Santa Pub Crawl makes its way back to the streets of Reno on Dec. 13.
The evening begins at 7:30 p.m. at three locations — Amendment 21, the Imperial and the Underground — where elves of all persuasion pick up their maps and joyfully mingle through the downtown district, stopping at 27 locations (if you can make all 27 bars before passing out). Maps and a full set of rules are also posted online at www.renosantacrawl.com.
The free event is a benefit for the Hashimoto Widows and Orphans Fund, which supports families of fallen police officers. The venues along the route are asked to donate to the cause, and as a reward for their generosity, they receive a visit from the crawling Clauses. Read the rest of this entry »
Santas stop traffic to take a photo in front of the Reno Arch during a past Santa Crawl in downtown Reno.

Merrie Leininger, Reno Gazette-Journal
Hundreds of sauced Santas, blitzed Blitzens and jolly old elves will descend on downtown this Saturday for the annual Santa Bar Crawl fundraiser.
Organizers Matt Goedert, a San Francisco attorney who grew up in Reno and sales coordinator Tommy Keefhaver, of Reno, are hoping up to 1,000 people dressed as Santas, Mrs. Clauses and Rudolphs will go bar hopping with them Saturday night.
“We estimate, based on hits on the Web site, between 500 and 1,000 people,” Keefhaver said.
“The year before last we had 500, and last year, the snow killed a lot (of the attendance) and we still had 500. A lot of people got stuck in the snow and walked. Even my mother shows up. Even my grandparents showed up one year just to see the Santas. Just to wander around and look at people is worth the price of the suit.” ($14.99 at any Walgreens will get you a really cheap-looking Santa suit, complete with beard.) Read the rest of this entry »

It wouldn’t be all that surprising to find out that Santa Claus is a drinker—all that existential angst he’s got to work through every year, millions of people questioning his very existence; kids, slowly tugging on his beard asking him if he’s real. It can’t be easy. Plus, with growing childhood obesity taking its toll on the poor fella’s lap, that sixer of Thunderbird must look pretty appealing to old St. Nick at the end of a hard day at the mall. And all those “helpers” Santa has—they’re probably more like “enablers” than anything else. Read the rest of this entry »

Just as the chaos of the holiday season mounts to its apex, the Reno downtown bar district will get its annual visit from the parade of pub-crawling Santas prepared to spread Christmas cheer.
The evening begins around 7:30 – 8 p.m. at two locations, where red-suit clad men and women meet to pick up their maps and joyfully mingle through the downtown district, stopping at 22 selected locations, bringing the joy of giving to revelers along the way.
The event, free to participants, can be expected to bring in about $4,000 to $5,000 in donations to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. The venues along the route are asked to donate to the cause, and as a reward for their generosity, they receive a visit from the crawling Clauses.
Organizer Matthew Goedert, a San Francisco attorney, has been spreading the good tidings with his crew of Santas for the past eight years. He says Santa is a beloved icon who always produced good interaction with the customers. The event is well-received for the most part and people react favorably. When you’re dressed as Santa, people love you and want to talk to you. Read the rest of this entry »
